Definition of Rational & Irrational Numbers: 

Rational Numbers: Any number that can be made by dividing one integer by another. Example: 1/2 is a rational number because you can divide 1 by 2 to get 1/2 or .50

Irrational Number: A number that cannot be written simply. Instead, it goes on forever without repeating. Example: Pi is an irrational number.
